In a large bowl, combine cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, parsley, and olives. 2. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice, and oregano. 3. Healthy Recipe - Foil Pack Chicken

Ingredients

3 small boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 pkg taco seasoning
3 small red or golden potatoes
6 T salsa
3/4 cup shredded Mexican style cheese or sub
3 T sour cream for topping


Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lay out 3 large sheets of foil. Slicre each potato thinly, and lay out one on each foil. Shake chicken in bag with taco seasoning, and place atop potatoes. Next, top with 2 T salsa on eah chicken, then 1/4 cup cheese on each.
Bring up foil sides and double fold and roll down. Bring up ends and double fold to seal. Place in a baking dish large enough to fit them all.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until chicken is cooked through. Let stand 5 mins, then vent foil packet before opening. Serve with dollop of sour cream.

ABOUT WASA

A report shows that the Dhaka Water & Sewerage Authority(WASA) loses Tk 35 crore every year due to system loss. The loss takes place in various ways -- but most of all due to the illegal works of some of its corrupt officials and employees who dispense illegal services to those willing to pay for illegal benefits.

We have seen nothing to assure us that the concerned authorities have taken appropriate and adequate measures to redress the situation.

We know that there is a huge demand of supply of water in all areas and WASA cannot fulfill its task by supplying water efficiently and we know there are problems which are beyond WASA's reach. It is not entirely WASA's fault. But the least it can do is to ensure that whatever is produced goes to the deserving ones, and other system losses like less billing than the actual usage are reduced to the bare minimum.

Something has to be done to bring those corrupt officials into justice. We have seen shortage of water supply in Old Dhaka for years. But nothing has been done efficiently from the Government to eradicate this problem.

A proper governing body is necessary to let WASA work efficiently.

Branding Bangladesh

How do we brand Bangladesh? How can we highlight our motherland's good image to the world at large? It is a million dollar question but the answer is definitely not worth million dollars.

Branding Bangladesh is not actually an overwhelming task. All we need is the right people at the right time to make things happen. We can brand Bangladesh in several different ways, some of which are discussed below.

The 'Boishakhi Mela' is a colourful event which we celebrate every year. Observance of 'Pohela Boishakh' has become very popular in Dhaka city. I think the Boishakhi festival should not be limited only to the Bengalis. It should be translated into a global festival where travellers from all around the world will have the golden and life-time opportunity to come to Bangladesh to attend this colourful festival. This event can be just like Brazil's carnival. Special package tours for tourists from all around the world can be provided. There is already a group in the popular website 'facebook' called the 'World Boishakhi Festival', which promotes the festivities to the users of the internet.

Similarly, the 'chom chom mishti' of Tangail can be branded and presented to the world community as the best sweetmeat on this planet. Sweet lovers all over will appreciate the unique taste of the dessert item.

Rajshahi silk can also be branded as the best quality of cloth material and as the world-class material to make the traditional outfit called 'Saree'.

We always label 'Dholai khal' as a source for finding stolen parts of vehicles. It is such a place where various motor parts are found at affordable prices. The notorious reputation of this place can be changed and built into the 'World's cheapest automobile manufacturing zone'.

CONDITIONS OF BUSES IN DHAKA CITY

Dhaka city has become so much crowded that it has become impossible to live in this city. Mobin, a businessman from Demra says that it takes more than two hour to reach Banani these days due to traffic jams in the streets. The traffic jams have severely increased so much in recent times that keeping appointment on time is impossible.

Parveen works in a private bank and she lives in Uttara. Her office is in Gulshan. Everyday she takes a bus to go to her office. Unfortunately, only a few times she can reach her office on time. Now-a-days it takes almost one hour to reach her destination place. Sometimes more than this.

Dhaka city has become totally messed up. We do not think that any of our Mayor had long term visions of constructing roads in efficient ways. Without any solid thinkings the roads were built and which is why the citizens of Dhaka city are suffering now. The situation has already become chaotic. If any proper action is not taken now then it will be far more difficult for anyone to deal with the situation of traffic jams.

Almost three months ago, an initiative had been taken to reduce two--thirds of the number of routes of the buses. Till now, it has not been implemented yet. In fact the number of buses are rather increasing day to day, creating more traffic jams.

However, the regional transportation committee (RTC) has said that they have instructed the bus owners to reduce the number of routes of their buses. We do not know whether they are telling the truth or not.

The real problem is that several buses travel in the same route which is a major problem behind creating traffic jams. A student of City college says that there are at least 6 buses that go from Science Laboratory to Motijheel. If we had proper and effective route plans for all the buses then the situation in the streets of Dhaka would not have been so much chaotic.

DEVELOPMENT OF DHAKA

It has almost become 37 years since we got our independence. Thirty seven years is a lot of time. We could have made this nation a prosperous one by this time if only we had strong visionary charismatic leaders. We lacked charismatic leadership. None of our leaders worked for the betterment of this nation. They were greedy, dishonest, rude and hungry for power. These so called politicians did nothing to improve the economy of the country. Rather, our country suffered a lot for their misguided rulings. The poor became poorer. Sufferings of ordinary citizens have risen to an alarming rate. The rate of unemployment is increasing day by day for which the crime rates increased dramatically. Moral and ethical values among the people are almost at its negative stage. Now all these are national issues, far bigger issues. If we only look at Dhaka, the capital city, nothing has developed. Dhaka has become a haven for miscreants, picketers, thieves, robbers and drug addicts. All these are happening due to increase in unemployment. The protector of Dhaka city, i.e. the Mayor has failed miserably to make this city into an ideal secured city. Of course, the blame should go to all the past mayors of Dhaka. None of the mayors had long term visions of making the capital city into an ideal modern city. Rather these mayors, backed up by their ruling parties, were involved in doing unplanned and short term projects. The citizens of Dhaka city are suffering from some major problems, which include: 1) traffic jams, 2) shortage of water supply, 3) lack of security 4) Unplanned construction of roads and buildings 5) Power failure. The citizens ask today what all our previous mayors did throughout all these years? Didn’t they ever see the sufferings of the Dhaka citizens? Were they intentionally ignorant about these facts? We know that every year sufficient amount of budget is allocated for the development of Dhaka city but the funds have never been properly utilized. If we only study the budget for the current fiscal year then what we see will startle anyone. Here’s a brief description of the budget:

1) For the development of Dhaka city, the budget of Tk, 1,401.88 crore was allocated. What sort of development did we see in Dhaka? Instead of solving traffic jams, water shortages, proper urban planning, reducing crimes, and supplying sufficient electricity what roles did our mayors play with the allocations of these money?

2) The salary expenditure of Dhaka City corporation workers were Tk. 97.50 crore. What kinds of facilities did the citizens of Dhaka get from Dhaka city corporation?

3) We are losing all kinds of playgrounds one by one. These are grabbed illegally by miscreants. But the fact is Tk 20 crore was allocated in the budget to maintain and develop playgrounds, but where did all the money go?

4) It is really comical that budget for the maintenance of gymnasium under Dhaka city corporation was Tk. 27 crore. We know all these gymnasiums are still in shambles so where did the money go? Could not this money be utilized for development of Dhaka?


5) Ironically only Tk 4.14 was allocated for the development of the environment projects.

6) Loans from foreign aides and government banks were Tk 619.43 crore. What happened to the development of Dhaka?

Okay. Here are the real facts. No matter what it takes, Bangladesh has to be the wealthiest nation in the world. Rather than asking ourselves how this will be possible, we have to tell ourselves that no matter how difficult it is we have to accomplish it. The question that haunts us is, if South Korea can, if Malaysia can and if Singapore can, then why can't we?

All we need is the right environment to start steering our nation towards prosperity. In order to do that, we must differentiate Bangladesh from other nations. Bangladesh has to be unique.

In the book 'Differentiate or Die', the author Mr Jack Trout states, “To be different is to be not the same. To be unique is to be one of its kind.”

The author also states, “Getting into the mind with a new idea or product or benefit is an enormous advantage because being first is a differentiating idea”. We have to differentiate Bangladesh to present ourselves to the world community.

Recently, Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed directed the Board of Investment (BoI) to redesign its strategic plan by incorporating new ideas, practical suggestions and forward-looking proposals to enhance investment. This is a very bold step taken by the caretaker government. We need foreign direct investment (FDI) coming into Bangladesh. This will definitely boost the economy of the nation and thus boost employment.

The population of our country is around 15 crore. I must say that this is sort of a blessing even though many argue that reduction of population and family planning is a must. Our population will only be a blessing if we can use it efficiently. Bangladesh can differentiate itself from others by showing to the foreign investors that we have immense employment opportunities at affordable salaries.

We can also use the young talent of our nation in sports. It is sad to see that Bangladesh attends very few events in the Olympics with only a few participants. A country with a population of 15 crore sends only 4-5 players to the Olympics! But we can definitely differentiate ourselves if we attract foreign investors to invest in sports equipment manufacturing industries.

So, Bangladesh can be differentiated by highlighting that we have enough manpower who are not only dedicated, energetic and hard-working but also affordable. More employment translates into economic boost and economic boost means prosperity.

ELECTRICITY : A WARNING SIGN!

A couple of days ago I was having this online conversation with one of my friends in USA and he told me 'Does it really take 37 years to solve the problem of power crisis?' All I could tell him that due to inefficient governance we always lagged behind. We never had someone who could aggressively worked for the betterment of the country. Today, even after 37 years of independence, when we look at our nation all we can see is that, all kinds of infrastructure are falling apart.

We have now severe problems with water, security, gas and electricity. Many experts once said that Bangladesh is floating on gas. And now the country is so much in shortage of gas that it is thinking of importing. Above all these problems, power crisis is the major one which has made the people suffer since beginning of the country's birth.

It is being predicted that there will be even more power shortages in near future because there is shortage of gas and coal to generate electricity and it is too much difficult for a developing country like us to import diesel at high prices to generate power.

There is a shortfall of producing around 500 Megawatt of electricity Due to shortage of gas. It is heard from the experts that due to shortage of gas the planning for building 17 more power plants within the next four years may come to a halt.

Even in this rainy season, except in the diplomatic areas, electricity go out frequently almost everywhere. According to Power Development Board (PDB), the country needs around 5000 Megawatt of electricity in pick hour. But PDB says that in pick hours around 3,300 to 3,400 Megawatts of electricity are being produced now.

Has any of our Government taken any stern steps to reduce power failure? Due to lack of gas supply there is a daily shortfall of producing 500 Megawatt of electricity.

Government must look for alternative solutions to this long term problem. They must look for alternatives to gas so that electricity problem is solved once and for all.

Murders, Killings and Robberies

One of the main problems here in Bangladesh is that people make crimes, they get caught but for no particular reason they get free. Everyone knows that bribes are a common factor in all the police stations. They offer bribes and those who fail to pay, they are the real sufferers.
At least 30 people were murdered in Dhaka City in May showing a sharp increase mainly because hardened criminals are still on loose and they are controlling their networks from other countries. DMP Commissioner admitted the dramatic increase in crimes, including secret killing, in the capital city. The incidents of secret killing increased rapidly.

Secondly, he said, criminals are now active again to dominate over their respective areas.
Criminals in response to the green signals from their godfathers have returned and committing heinous crimes. The situation had improved earlier following law enforcers including RAB launched vigorous drive against secret killing, extortion, abduction and robbery. Recent survey shows that due to increase in unemployment, even people with no criminal records are getting involved in killings and murdering. They are being appointed by any group or individuals for a lump—sum money. They get paid once their job is done. As top criminals are out of the country, even the politicians use these young people to kill or abduct or kidnap politicians of other parties against which they offer them lucrative amounts of money.
The moral values among the people have decreased a lot. No one cares what is right and what is wrong. Only because of less moral values among the people lead to these violent activities. In earlier societies people and obtaining conditions were controlled by some social practices, namely, large family, religion, social values and homogeneous culture. Because of mobility the large family and homogeneous neighborhood which had been the principal agents of social control, disintegrated. They are replaced by small families, consisting of parents and children and by a neighborhood where the mores are no longer so homogeneous. Now the individuals are detached from one another and the behavior of one person is a matter of relative indifference to other persons. The role of religion and social values have been marginalized. Cumulative result of all these conditions is the high rate of criminality in urban areas.
Now the situation has become so much worse that a person kills another person just for 10tk. This is happening as because we are losing our religious and moral values.
