Govt to develop housing project in Cox's Bazar

The government will develop housing projects in tourist town of Cox's Bazar for the middle and low- income group people.
The projects will be developed at Khrushkul and Kalatoli, few miles away from the world's longest sea beach, to reduce accommodation pressure in the coastal town.

National Housing Authority (NHA), a state-owned organization, has taken the projects as part of its plan to ease accommodation crisis and increase civic amenities at upazila and district level.

NHA Executive Engineer, Chittagong division Md Khalid Hossain told BSS that they have taken the projects for 64 districts to ensure accommodation for all by 2015 as part of the government's initiative to implement its Vision-2021.

The residential plot projects at Khrushkul and Cox's Bazar sadar mouza, are three kilometers off the western part of district headquarters.

The projects comprise 278 acres where residential plots of different sizes with all necessary urban facilities including schools, colleges, hospitals, mosques and play-grounds will be made available.

The residential plots are absolutely earmarked for middle-income group people, the concerned engineers said.

In the projects, 2,057 residential plots will be developed. Of those, the size of 363 plots will be of five kathas each, 691 four kathas each and 941 three kathas each.

Besides, 18 plots of 10 kathas each have been earmarked for commercial purposes.
With 10 per cent service charge, the total cost of per katha for residential plots would be Taka 1.30 lakh while the rate would be doubled for commercial plots.

On a query, Project Engineer Khalid Hossain said the land development work will start soon after getting approval by the concerned authorities.
The estimated cost of the project would be about Taka 100 crore and the Development Project Profile (DPP) was submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works in Aug this year.

The DPP is now waiting for final approval at the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Under the project, 575 apartments of 680 square-feet each will be built. Construction cost of each flat would be at Taka 24.40 lakh.

The estimated cost of apartment projects would be Taka 127.17 crores and DPP of the project was submitted to the ministry of housing and public works in July this year for approval.
