Ankhi Alamgir’s surname reminds us of her father Alamgir, a famous actor of our silver screen. Her mother, Khoshnoor is also a notable lyricist. Though she was born in a famed family, as a singer Ankhi paved her own way in the contemporary Bangla music scene.
Having established a place of her own in the music industry, Ankhi has been winning hearts of millions with her melodious voice in over hundreds of songs.

Ankhi’s venture into the world of music began at an early age. She recalls, “Though I started learning classical music from my childhood, I sang as a playback singer first in my teen days. It was the story of 1994. One day, my father’s friend and film director Delwar Jahan Jhontu persuaded me for singing a song for his film, Biddrohi Bodhu. My parents inspired me to take that offer.”
“While recording at the studio, I was a bit nervous as I stood in front of the microphone. But, it was just for a while. What came out after a few minutes was very encouraging for me — it was my first playback song — Bukey Dhorey.” she continued.
From then, Ankhi had no looking back, no second thought and began her journey as a promising singer of the country. She has also been hosting a programme for ntv.
But music was not her first adventure. As a child actress, Ankhi was screened for Amzad Khan’s film Bhat De, for which she received the National Award.
Being a daughter of a celebrity, Ankhi could have easily followed her father’s mark as an actress. “The love and passion for music grew in me from my childhood days. I never wanted to do anything which might have disrupted my realm of music. This may be the reason for my music career.” she answered when she was asked about the reason for choosing singing instead of acting.
While speaking about her inspiration for music, she mentioned her parents’ names without any hesitation.
When asked about her role model in the music arena, she states, “For me, the unparalleled person whom I consider my foremost role-model is Lata Mangeshkar.”
About her music philosophy for singing, Ankhi shares, “My songs are considered by the audience as popular numbers which they can dance with in the live shows. But, I am looking forward to experimentations with my singing style — let it be with purely romantic or melodious songs or even with classical or semi-classical songs.”
Ankhi Alamgir is currently busy with a few live shows across the country. “Apart from live shows, I am planning for my next album. Sowkat Ali Emon will compose the songs for the album. Kabir Bakul and my mother are writing songs for me.
I will be seen in a television commercial for a product of Walton, too.
Dehotori, a fitness programme of ntv, is being hosted by me every week. I received a positive response from my fans for hosting this programme and I am also enjoying my newfound emergence on the TV screen.”
Ankhi Alamgir ended with expressing her dream to see our country Bangladesh, as one of the most promising and safest countries of the world.
