With hopes shattered, a Bangladeshi supporter looks, frustrated as she watches her favourite team crushed in 58 runs allout against West Indies yesterday. Spinner Suliemen Benn and pacers Kemar Roach and Darren Summy guided West Indies to achieve a formidable nine-wicket victory over hosts Bangladesh in their crucial Group B encounter of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh were all out for a meagre 58 off 18.5 overs. In reply, West Indies romped home in just 12.2 overs making 59 for the loss of one wicket. It was Bangladesh's lowest total against any team in their ODI campaign so far. Earlier, Bangladesh were bundled out for 74 against Australia in Darwin in 2008.Most of the Bangladesh batsmen played aimlessly, hopelessly, callously and this they paid heavily.
West Indies bowlers totally dominated over Bangladesh batsmen from the very beginning and Bangladesh batsmen played helplessly.Spinner Suliemen Benn bowled a superb spell and finished as 5.5-2-18-4.Pacer Kemar Roach and Darren Sammy captured altogether six wickets sharing three wickets each for 19 and 21 runs respectively.
Opener Tamim Iqbal tried to snick the day's third delivery of Kemar Roach and he was caught at the second slip by Darren Sammy off Kemar Roach when the team's total was nought and Tamim was dismissed for a duck. After dismissal of Tamim, Imrul Kayes, the other opener tried to snick Darren Sammy and Kayes was caught behind by wicket keeper Devon Thomas off Darren Sammy scoring just five runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Roquibul Hasan, Mohammad Ashraful, all the middle order batsmen threw their wickets scoring zero, 8,4 and 11 runs respectively. The tailenders of Bangladesh also failed to salvage their team from debacle and they returne to the dressing room scoring poor individual scores. One-down Zunaed Siddique was the only batsman for Bangladesh who knocked a modest 25 off 27 balls amid four fours.
Later, Chris Gayle remained undefeated with 37 off 36 balls featuring six shots across the ropes.Spinner Naeem Islam earned a consolation for Bangladesh as the spinner took one wicket for 14 runs.
