The five-day ‘BCS Digital Expo 2011’ kicked off at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) yesterday with due festivity. Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury inaugurated the computer show as chief guest.

Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad and State Minister for Science and ICT Yeafesh Osman attended the inaugural function as special guests with Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) presedent Mostafa Jabbar in the chair.
In her speech Matia said there is no alternative to ICT education in this age of globalisation. Information technology is being used in agriculture research, for which, gene secrets of jute could be known.
She also stressed the need for motivating the new generation more for taking ICT education.
66 local and foreign IT companies are showcasing their products in 29 pavilions and 73 stalls of the fair.
The theme of the 3rd edition of the digital expo is Digital Bangladesh for New Generation. Business Promotion Council of Commerce Ministry is helping the BCS, the oldest computer organisation of the country, in organising the computer fair.
A number of seminars, IT and quiz contests, special zones will be organised to reveal government’s commitment for a digital Bangladesh.
