British aid to Bangladesh to double

The British government will double its aid to Bangladesh over the next four years.
The decision came following a major review of UK's global aid programmes, said a British High Commission press release on Wednesday.

It said, "By 2015, it will increase its aid to Bangladesh to an average of 250 million pound sterling per year." The UK's development programme will focus on creating jobs, improving skills, poverty alleviation and social sector, including health and education.
"The UK will also support Bangladesh in facing the major challenges of climate change and natural disasters," the release added. UK's Deaprtment for International Development will have a bilateral programme with Bangladesh by 2016.
