A singer with difference - Pritom

“To me, music is not only for entertainment, it can be used as a powerful tool for making the masses aware of different things as well. I get the inspiration to compose my music from my social responsibilities,” stated Pritom while speaking to daily sun recently.

Pritom is a familiar name in today’s music arena, with his different style of singing. Apart from being a singer, he is also an accomplished lyricist and composer. Breaking the world of hypocrisy, his songs speak about the complexity of urban life, in a realistic form.

With his popular numbers Balika and Krishno korle, Pritom has been incorporating his thoughts about social values in his songs. In our contemporary music scene, he is perhaps the only person who has written and composed all the songs for his albums.

Going back to his early days, Pritom recalls, “Music is something I have enjoyed since my boyhood. After passing SSC, I started receiving my classical music lessons from Leo J Baroi at his institution.”

“Afterwards, I completed my formal education along with learning classical music.
Between 2001 and 2003, I appeared in the music industry as a director and started composing songs for SI Tutul and Asif, among others. As a music director, I came up with a mixed album titled Shey in 2002,” he added.

“Meanwhile, as a singer my debut solo-album Du Inchi Sukh Chai came into being in 2002. I got a huge response from my fans, especially the young generation as they were ecstatic to have something new from my songs.

From then on I did not look back, and my fans are getting an album every year; till date I have brought seven albums.

The albums are — Cholo Palai(2004), Balika(2005) a duet with Nochiketa, Bhalobashar Michil-e Esho(2006), Hello Bondhu(2007), Slogan(2008), Tui Ki Amar Bondhu Hobi(2009) Street Singer(2010)”, he continued..

While speaking about his music philosophy, Pritom shares, “To me, music is the mirror of a society. I always want to portray the most recent issues in my composition and the realm that I illustrate through music is not at all unreal.
Music is a very effective tool for conveying your thoughts to the general mass instantly; that is why I want to deliver my messages through this medium.”
About the turning point of his solo singing career, Pritom expresses, “From my point of view, Krishno Korle Lila Khela Ami Korley Paap, a song from Cholo Palai, was the song for which my solo career took off.”

About his most popular song, Balika, Pritom shares, “When I used to reside in Ramna, looking at the young immature girls in love who often find life difficult, I got the idea to compose a song. The song was the title track of a duet album with Nochiketa. I had a wonderful experience working with a singer like him.”

About his recent projects, Pritom informs, “I am busy working on my 8th solo album, Bhalo Theko, which will be released on the occasion of the Pahela Baishakh. We have completed 80 per cent work of the album and it will feature 10 songs.
“My fans will have the experience of my own style from these songs.”
Pritom concluded his conversation, saying he will continue his work with determination so that his name becomes immortal in time.
