immediately Remove all river pillars - Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (Bapa)

Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (Bapa) leaders yesterday urged the government to immediately remove all boundary pillars along the banks of Turag and Balu rivers which breaches the High Court (HC) directives.

During a visit led by Bapa's general secretary Abdul Matin observed around 750ft of river bank area will be lost due to the boundary pillars.

Some pillars beside the Prottasha Math set up 30 to 40 ft away from the river bank do not ensure 50m of foreshore.

Bapa, at a press conference held at its office, demanded to earmark the actual area of rivers and to evict all encroachers.

Gazipur district administration has done a 'worst job ever' in saving the rivers and the environment, they stated.

Among others, Shahjahan Mridha, joint secretary of Bapa, Sharif Jamil, Alamgir Kabir, Professor Moazzem Hossain, executive member, Mohidul Hoque Khan and M Sirajul Islam Molla also accompanied the team.
