A day-long concert titled ‘Robi Music for the Women’ marking the coming Women’s Day on March 8 was held at the open ground of Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi on Tuesday.
The concert was jointly organized by Ayesha Memorial Hospital and Young Women’s Christian Association of Bangladesh. As the title of the show suggests, the musical event was only for women where no men were allowed. And throughout this show, the women and girls have proven that they can be much louder and more boisterous than their male counterparts.
Home minister advocate Sahara Khatun inaugurated the event at 10am but for the ongoing SSC examinations, the show started at 2pm.
Under the scorching heat of the sun, the energy of the girls was undying. Most of them were in their teens. There were also young mothers who had brought along their kids from schools as well. Hridoy Khan kicked off the show and the girls started cheering just as the organisers announced his name. He started with ‘O meye’, and did many other hits like ‘Bolna’, ‘Chaina meye’ and others. Next was the rocking band Lalon who rocked the audience with their hit numbers including ‘Sudha sindhu’, ‘Khepa’ and ‘Guru charan’. Dalchhut appeared next. The women screamed, cheered and danced to show their appreciation to the popular band.
The cheer of the audience had reached an ultimate crescendo when the rockstar Ayub Bachchu and his band LRB came onto the stage. They were completely grooved and captivated by the music. The last performer to end the show was Mila, who gave the crowd hits after hits and made the show one to be remembered. Dr Ashish Kumar Chakraborti, director of Ayesha Memorial Hopital, said that proceeds from the event will be donated to Ashrukanya Cancer Support Unit.
