Rapid Action Battalion seized 2,300 bags of rice meant for open market sale (OMS) from two local warehouses in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur early Thursday.
They also arrested five people for hoarding the rice, reports a correspondent from Gazipur.
Acting on a tip-off, members of Rab-1 raided Aliza Rice Mill at Latifpur and seized 1,500 sacks of OMS rice at about 1:00am.
They arrested three people -- Muntaz Ali, 35, Chan Mia, 40 and Majedil Karim, 30, -- in this connection.
Meanwhile, Rab members seized 800 sacks OMS rice from Bhawal Rice Mill at Bakhterpur in the upazila and arrested its owner Azhar Ali, 50, and his son Shamim Mamun, 27.
Captain Mohammad Sohel, assistant director of Rab-1, said the seized rice was handed over to food officials of Gazipur district.
