In touch with Mother Nature

Asolo art exhibition titled ‘Symphony of Colours’ by eminent artist Syed Abdullah Khalid is being held at Gallery Kaya at Uttara in the city.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the show on 12 April.
Renowned art critics Rabiul Hussain and Shamsul Wares were also present at the opening ceremony.

Syed Abdullah Khalid is a noted sculptor of our country. He is the architect of ‘Aparajeyo Bangla’ (Invincible Bangla) situated in front of the Dhaka University Arts faculty.
His ardent love for painting has brought him enough success, a portion of which has been presented in his current exhibition.

Done in acrylic and oil, a total of 40 artworks have been put on display. All the artworks have depicted the beauty and colours of seasonal flowers of Bangladesh.
An ardent lover of nature, the artist has composed 25 works in realistic style while the rest are in abstract form.

Through these works, done on large canvases, artist Khalid has lost himself in a dreamy world of the colourful nature. Splashes and dabs of rich shades on the works have brought out a true essence of romanticism and liveliness through pure beauty and bliss.

The artist has made attempts to reveal the ultimate secret of nature through his artworks.
The artworks of Abdullah Khalid also evoke a deep sense of mysticism. In a way, the rich enlightenment of the works has proffered the ritualistic offerings to the eternal world of spiritualism, a culture he has been closely related to through birth right – the Sufi culture of Sylhet.

Due to his inclination to mysticism, some of his colourful semi-abstract paintings resemble abstract expressionist works of late American artist Jackson Pollock whose style and works were introduced to him during the 60s by his teacher Prof Abdur Razzak.
Art critic Shamsul Wares says, “Trees in the compositions have been lined up in a way to express the harmony, stability and power of nature. These paintings which are celebrating the musical extravaganza of nature, in a way, reveal the artist’s optimistic view about the world.”

“But, within the optimism there remains a cry of sadness and melancholy and a sense of loneliness and frustration, which have pervaded the vivid subjects,” he added.
The stylised notions of empty space and related intricacies have been avoided by the artist in the displayed compositions. Rather the subject matters have been spread out across the huge canvas areas to fill up the vacuum.

Noted art critic and architect Rabiul Husain says, “Keenly watchful Khalid has depicted the bloomed clusters of bright Sonalu, Krishnachura and Radhachura flowers which oscillate freely with the sweet breeze from branches and twigs to evoke the sense of a merry setting of the spring.”

Every space of Khalid’s easel has been splashed with colours of nature, which has proved the painter’s deep motivation for the natural greenery.

To celebrate the colourful festivity of the fresh and rejuvenated nature, artist Syed Abdullah Khalid has tried to seek and find the true essence of the wide range of colours which represent the fruitful seasons and the multi-hued flowers and leaves of Mother Nature.
The current exhibition ‘Symphony of Colours’ is a splendid carnival, which is celebrating the breathtaking creation of nature, her endless colours, rekindled spirit and poetic zeal.
The exhibition is open from 11:00am to 7:30pm every day till 29 April.
