Shahid kapor - I was always a well-behaved boyfriend

Not until he took off his shirt and ran with the horses in Kaminey. That was the beginning.
Then came the split with then girlfriend Priyanka Chopra. Soon, everything changed. Suddenly, the boy who didn't drink or socialise began partying. Hard. The guy who had longterm relationships was, within a short span of a few months, linked to Anushka Sharma, Bipasha Basu and Nargis Fakhri. The workaholic then took off for a vacation with his buddies. And finally, there was his "naked birthday" in Goa - a three-day pool party that began trending on Twitter after pictures of him and some babes in bikinis surfaced on the internet.
Shahid is suddenly sexy, with a fan following of 1.21 million on his micro blogging account. Singledom seems to suit him. Over a cup of cold coffee, he answers questions on love, life and the ladies...
You've become suddenly sexy! What's changed?
I've been sexy for a while (grins). Ever since I crossed 30, women have started taking me seriously. Until now, my target audience was school-going girls!
Does the sexy vibe have something to do with being single?
No. I think it's because I've stopped shaving for a while, so maybe the stubble is helping. And I think this unemployed vibe I have right now is working for me. When you have to work, you have to look proper, and you have time for very little apart from shooting.
There's something different about you...
I think I have changed over the last four years. Also, I've been living on my own and doing my own thing...
Haven't you been living on your own for years now?
Yes, I mean kind of...for the past six years I've had my own apartment.
What are the other changes?
Oh God, you are asking me to analyse myself! I think I've become more relaxed and laidback. Earlier, I was very fixed in my ways. I used to only go with what I wanted. Now I go with what other people want and, it's an easier ride. You have to believe in whatever you do workwise, but it's wonderful to go with someone else's vision because it's liberating. As an actor, it's a beautiful place to be in. And in my personal space, I've become more social...
What made you more social? Nagging ex girlfriends?
No! (laughs) It's just a natural change. I can't define it, but I think with age you realise that I prefer being this way. I can't analyse why.
Your former girlfriends call you boring!
See, this is what happens when you don't defend yourself and only one side's version is put across. No one knew me, so they believed whatever they heard. I was always a well-behaved boyfriend, which I am not anymore.
Yes, you are the new bad boy, with lots of link-ups!
That's because I was in a very public relationship for a long time, after which I haven't been in one. I also don't talk about my personal life anymore, so everybody wants to know what the hell is going on. Since speculation is on, I'm being linked to any woman I am seen with. But nobody knows what's really happening, which works for me!
You are happy being single? Very happy! You always seemed to be a guy who preferred a relationship to a romp.
(Smiles) I've kind of discovered myself in the last year-and-a-half. I've learnt to enjoy 'me' time and do stuff that I want to do. I haven't been working much of late. In the last eight years of my career, I have worked on an average of 320 days a year. After Mausam, I was supposed to start a film but it got pushed to the end of the year, which left me unemployed. I am hating it, I've come to realise I love working. It's my first love. I feel incomplete without it. The last I was on a set was three months ago. That's really long!
You began working at 16, so you've earned a break! I am a workaholic. But this time-out has its plus side. I have had a lot of time with myself, friends, family and just chill. I have met lots of interesing people from different walks of life. I think I have experienced a lot more. As an actor you tend to live in a really small world which is not very healthy. It is enriching to go to new places, meet different people know and learn about things which you didn't know about..
You took off for a holiday, too! Yeah, I did a holiday in Barcelona with three boys. We had a banging two-week vacation.
Pun intended?
(laughs) Take it how you will, no it was the best boys' vacation I have been on.
One gets the feeling that you are now easier on yourself. True?
I am very passionate about what I do, I give it 200 per cent, and I don't think it will ever change. But I've realised that as an actor you have to give it your best and let it go. That's the most difficult journey and it comes with time. When you start out, there's so much eagerness, excitement, and you want all that appreciation to come your way. But with time, you come to realise that you cannot chose to make things go in any particular direction. Every film has its own journey and it works/ doesn't work for so many reasons... It's important just to enjoy work without worrying about other stuff. I am at more peace with myself. I just go with the flow. I don't judge myself all the time.
How do you remember Mausam?
I always smile when I remember Mausam. The first memory of the film is that I got to spend two years with my family and work at the same time. My parents separated when I was very young so I never got that kind of time with my dad and the entire family. I am definitely dissatisfied with how it was recieved.
Cop films are big these days. Wanna wear a uniform and grow a moustache?
I grew a moustache and are a uniform (air force officer) in Mausam. I have done 18 films, and have completed eight years in the industry. Now, I feel that, as an actor, I am ready to attempt everything - action, romance, comedy, an off-beat film, or even a full-on massy film, because I've learnt to enjoy these films. But there are still some films, that I don't understand. They make lot of money and I wonder, 'Yeh kya hai'?.
What kind of roles are coming your way?
All kinds - from a rustic guy, to a mentally challenged person, to an underdog, to a politician. When they feel you are good in comedy, they offer you comic roles, and you choose the best. But it gets difficult when you are offered everything and it's up to you to choose what kind of films you want to do.
That's because you are considered a good actor.
I thought I was okay in my first film, and then I was really, really bad in some films. I really cringe when I see some of my scenes. There's a scene in one film where a dog is biting me, the expressions I have made should be qualified as the most over-acted scene in the history of the cinema. The dog's expressions were more real than mine. I was going bananas!
Speaking of bananas... Let's talk about your naked birthday...
That is Atul Kasbekar's fault, who decided to turn me into a calendar model. About 30 of us went to Goa. We booked the whole place, there were around 20 rooms; all my friends were there. We had a 24-hour DJ who played music from noon till 2 am in the morning. It was a three-day pool party. As for the girls in bikinis, they wore them for obvious reasons. (Grins) I requested everyone to be in their saris and pyjamas but they refused. Eventually, all of them wore swimsuits and shorts. I had a great time. It was the most fun birthday I have had. As the whole place was just ours, I could let myself go.

Joya Ahsan returns after shooting in Kolkata

A decade has passed since Joya Ahsan's emergence, during which she has turned her journey into a success story only a few artistes can emulate. Be it TV plays, modeling or movies -- Joya came, saw and conquered all with her extraordinary abilities.

The talented actress recently returned from Kolkata after shooting for the West Bengal film “Aborto”.
Joya talked about the movie, her experiences in Kolkata and also about her new projects:

Please share with us your experiences in Kolkata.
Joya: I had a great time. I didn't feel for a moment that I was working in unfamiliar territories: though location is different, the language is the same. The social structure and the characters are similar, so I did not have any problem working there. I'm extremely happy with the work and enjoyed it thoroughly. I was amazed by the level of professionalism and dedication.

What are the differences in terms of professionalism?
Joya: The professionalism in the Kolkata movie industry right now is on a very high level, which is not the case in our country. After seeing their dedication, I felt like if such professionalism existed here, we could have made better films.

Tell us about the director.
Joya: The director Arindam Shil is an actor himself. He was very dedicated to his job and gave importance to every detail. He brought out the best from all of us. He is a true professional. I never felt that it was my first work with him.

What happened on the first day of shooting?
Joya: I had a scene with Abir Chatterjee -- famous for his performance in “Kahaani”. The scene went well.

What is your character in the film like?
Joya: I play the role of Charu, who has two sides to her life. One is at her home in North Kolkata, while the other is her corporate life. This is basically a story about relationships. A very Bengali character -- Charu is an introvert; conservative, but a modern woman.

Where was “Aborto” shot?
Joya: Mostly in Kolkata. We shot some scenes at the Tolley Club, some near the banks of the Ganga. Shots were also taken at places called Rupoham, Rajar Haat; along with shooting sessions in both North and South Kolkata.

Did you have any difficulty with the dialogues?
Joya: Some. For example, we usually say “basha-e jabo”, but over there people say “bari jabo”. They call water “jol” instead of “paani”. Minor difficulties here and there, but none that cannot be overcome.

When will the film be released?
Joya: The movie is likely to be released by August or September. Its release will be this year for certain.

You must have had talks with local directors about your next movie?
Joya: I've talked with many, but I don't want to finalise anything before the release of “Aborto”. There are also offers to work in commercial films. But I want to be a bit more careful in choosing my work. First I would like to see the result of “Aborto”.

How did you spend your time in Kolkata, when you were not shooting?
Joya: Sometimes I went to see other shootings when I had a break. Sometimes I preferred a good rest. I also went to the movie theatres and did some shopping.

Behind the scenes with Purnima

In her 14-year career, movie actress Purnima has starred in countless popular films. However, she bagged her first ever National Film Award this year.
Purnima expressed her elation at the achievement and revealed her thoughts and future plans on the professional front.

What is your reaction after receiving the National Film Award for the first time?<strong>
Purnima: This is my first National Film Award. I was awarded for my performance in the 2010 film “Ora Amake Bhalo Hotey Dilo Na”. I believe my hard work has finally paid off. Many of my contemporaries had already received the award. Although I was yet to receive the official recognition, I believed that I had the necessary skills and popularity to be considered as a contender. It's a reason for great joy and I feel honoured.

Tell us about the movie that brought you the award.
Purnima: “Ora Amake Bhalo Hote Dilo Na” was directed by Kazi Hayat. The storyline was very powerful. I played the role of a substance abuser in the film. I received much applause after the release of the movie. Overall it was a very good film. I'm grateful to all those who were involved in the film.

What challenges did you face while portraying the role of a drug addict?
Purnima: As artistes, we often have to struggle to play bold characters. But it also gives us a different kind of pleasure. The director helped me talk to some addicts to get an insight into the role. It was a very hard role to portray and presented many challenges. But the hard work seems nothing now, after winning the award.

You have starred in several movies. Name some of the ones that were liked by the audiences and critics alike.
Purnima: Among all the movies some have influenced me more than others. One of those movies was “Mon-er Majhe Tumi”. It was one of the movies that acquired unprecedented popularity among the viewers. Still people sing the tunes from the movie. I also acted in “Shubha” -- a movie based on a Tagore story. I played the eponymous role. There are many other movies that are close to my heart.

How did your initiation into films happen?
Purnima: My first movie was in 1998 -- Zakir Hossain Raju's “Ei Jibon Tomar Amar”. Eventually I became more and more involved with the celluloid and it became my life and profession.

You've also done TV plays and modelling?
Purnima: Yes. I did some TVCs which became quite popular. I also continue to do occasional TV plays. Sometimes even when I don't want to, I have to keep requests from the directors.

What movies are you shooting for now?
Purnima: I'm doing an Iftekhar Ahmed Fahmi movie titled “To Be Continued” where I star opposite singer Tahsan. I'm also doing “Lobhe Paap Paape Mrityu” directed by Sohanur Rahman Sohan, along with Amin Khan and Riaz. Model and TV star Arfin Shuvo is acting opposite me in Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Raj's “Chhaya Chhobi”.

What are your hopes for your new films?
Purnima: I'm very enthusiastic about all of them. I'm hoping that viewers will see different Purnimas in these movies. The three movies -- all with unique stories -- will hopefully be released within this year.

Katy Perry turns desi for IPL

Be it Lady Gaga, or even Pamela "Baywatch" Anderson in a sari, or Heidi Klum shopping for payals in Varanasi - the phoren star seems quite smitten with Indian attire.

Hollywood has been courting Bollywood quite ardently of late, by not just the usual naach gaana, but by also spicing up their wardrobe with that 'something Indian'.
At her IPL performance, the California Gurl matched up to all our Munnis, Shielas and Chammak Challos. Why, she even looked the part. Dressed like a magnificent peacock, which though is her patent outfit for her "California Gurls" tour, was a lot more befitting in our country - where it's the national bird. She desi-ized it with transparent harem pants, traditional bridal bindis over her eyebrows, and added a maang tikka to complete the look. Take a closer look and you can even see jhumkas, and her bangles could easily have belonged to any Chandni Chowk thela. Her sexed-up outfit still had traces of embroidery and sheesha-work, finishing it all with cute little jootis. Now that's a desi girl!

Lata Mangeshkar to honour Madhuri Dixit

This year's recipient is Madhuri Dixit, just back for good in amchi Mumbai after a lengthy residency in the US, Madhuri has always been self-declared Lata Mnageshkar fan.

The highlight of her career, says Dixit, was when Lataji sang Didi tere devar deewana and other memorabilia for the actress in " Hum Aapke Hain Koun".
Says Lataji, "Madhuri is a very fine actress and one of the most beautiful and graceful dancers of our cinema. I always like watching her on screen. "Hum Aapke Hain Koun" and "Devdas" are my favourites. Whenever we meet we chatter in Marathi."
Interestingly the function to commemorate her father's death anniversary would be the second public event Lataji would be seen attending in a month, a rare feat for the super-reclusive singing legend who hardly steps out .
Says Lataji, "The function in my father's memory is something our family and I don't miss any year. This year I am just a little worried about the heat which is grown unbearable. As for the other function, for Sachin Tendulkar... how could I miss that? Sachin is like my son. He calls me Maa. Mukesh's wife Neeta requested me to be there."
As for singing for Sachin, the Nightingale laughs, "I think people were taken aback because I haven't sung publicly in a long time. I knew Mera saaya saath hoga is Sachin's favourite song. But I asked him at the function. He got up and said, 'Yes, it's my favourite song and I'd be honoured if you sing two lines of that song.' Did I have a choice after that?"

Titanic's erotic scene is back in 3D version

Shahrukh Khan was real Munnabhai

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra says that Shah Rukh Khan had always been his first choice for most of his films, be it '3 Idiots', 'Munnabhai MBBS', or the yet-to-be released 'Ferrari Ki Sawari'.

"Shah Rukh was offered '3 Idiots', 'Ferrari Ki Sawari', 'Munnabhai' and other films. He is our first guy - we go to him first and if he says no, then we move on," Chopra told reporters.
Shah Rukh had backed out of 'Munnabhai MBBS' because of back trouble and could not do '3 Idiots' because of date issues.

If Chopra had his way, SRK would have been the Munnabhai of 'Munnabhai MBBS' and Sanjay Dutt would have played the small role of Zaheer, a cancer patient.
"Today, I feel Sanjay is perfect as Munna and same way Sharman fits the central role in 'Ferrari Ki Sawari'. It is all about writing and getting the right actor for the right role, which is difficult," Chopra said.

'Titanic 3D' Censor clears without cuts

The 3D version of James Camron's "Titanic" is set for a release here and this time the censor board has retained the scene where Leonardo Di Caprio sketches a nude Kate Winslet.
The original was released in 1997, and the film, described as one of the greatest love stories of all time, won 11 Oscars that year.
However when it was released here, two scenes were cut from the movie that time. But the 3D version of the movie, that is set for an April 5 release, has been passed without any cuts and has received a clear U/A censor rating by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Countdown to Pahela Baishakh : Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University

Mongol Shobha Jatra brought out by the students and teachers of Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) of Dhaka University is one of the major attractions of the Baishakhi celebration in Dhaka.

Students of FFA are racing towards finishing their preparations for another jubilant rally on Pahela Baishakh, 1419.
FFA students are raising funds for the Mongol Shobha Jatra through sale of watercolour paintings, lokkhishora, traditional terracotta gift items, masks and more. At the FFA premises students can be seen working on the paintings, traditional pottery and several other items which will be put on sale.
Dean of FFA Professor EHM Matlub Ali, Professor Nisar Hossain, artist Biren Shome, Professor Shishir Bhattacharya, Professor Nasreen Begum and others formally inaugurated this year's Baishakhi preparation through “shora” painting. The arrangement is open from 11am to 10pm everyday and will continue till Pahela Baishakh.
Apart from the grand rally, a cultural programme will also be held at Bakultala of FFA. Folk-themed cultural performances with Baul songs will dominate the event.
A jatrapala will also be held at FFA premises on the next day. Present and former students and teachers will enact different roles in the jatrapala titled "Bagdatta", written by Jatin Basak.
What also draw one's attention are the huge bamboo frames on which students are busy working on. They were working on replicas of a royal elephant, a folk tiger, Gazir pat and a peacock showing off its colourful plumage-- which will be among the main attractions of this year's Mongol Shobha Jatra.
"When we finish these huge structures, Professor Nisar Hossain, Professor Shishir Bhattacharya and Professor Abul Barq Alvi will choose this year's motif for the grand rally," informed Ashim Halder Sagar, a student of the 11th batch, FFA. This year the 11th batch students (Masters final year) are leading the preparations for the big occasion.
"Even though the 11th batch is leading the preparations; all current and former students as well as teachers of FFA for the Baishakhi preparations are working jointly. We don't receive any sponsors. We always try to raise funds through sales of artworks prepared by the students and teachers," said Sagar.
Prices of paintings range from Taka 500 to 5,000, while prices of painted shora start from Taka 500.
"A fundraising art exhibition featuring works of noted Bangladeshi artists and FFA teachers will open at Zainul Gallery 1 of FFA on April 1 and continue till Pahela Baishakh (April 14). Paintings by teachers will also be auctioned, which should fetch larger amounts," added Sagar.
Like every year the students will paint the walls of FFA marking Pahela Baishakh. The 'Zainul Shishu Niketon' also known as 'School Ghar' at the FFA will also be decorated with colourful folk motifs such as birds, elephants, horses and other animals in the Shokher Hari (a painted clay pot).
This year the Mongol Shobha Jatra will go around the Doyel Chattar, Shahid Minar and Jagannath Hall and then return to FFA.

The most popular and sought-after movie star of the time, Shakib Khan has the ability to make an instant hit of any film he stars in. The prominent actor has also been elected as the president of the Cholochitro Shilpi Shamitee. Shakib Khan recently talked about his winning streak.

How do you feel after winning the National Film Award for the first time?
Shakib Khan: There are no words to express my feelings. Winning the prestigious award for the first time is truly a special experience. It made me feel that all my effort has not gone in vain. I'm grateful to the audience and fans, the Jury Board who considered me worthy of the honour and the director of the movie.

“Bhalobashlei Ghor Badha Jae Na” won awards in seven different categories. Your view?
Shakib Khan: It's not an easy task for a single movie to scoop seven different National Film Awards. I'm very proud to be a part of the effort. I believe that any good work will get due recognition.

As an artiste, how do you view winning the award?
Shakib Khan: Obviously,in a very positive light. I believe the National Award is an inspiration for me, as it is a state honour. But the love of my fans is my true award. Tell us about your ongoing movies. Shakib Khan: I'll be staying in Cox's Bazaar for the rest of this month for the shooting of “Dhaka to Bombay”.

How will you celebrate your birthday on March 28?
Shakib Khan: I'll be busy shooting in Cox's Bazaar. But the shooting unit will probably arrange something in the evening. However, I will miss my parents very much. I'm also expecting my fans, well wishers and close ones to wish me over the phone.

Tell us about your latest movie which was released last week?
Shakib Khan: “Ek Takar Denmohor” where I starred opposite Opu Bishwash , was released last Friday. It's a movie with a good storyline. Commercially, it's doing pretty well.

Recently another movie “Amar Challenge” was released. How do you view that?
Shakib Khan: Yes. I feel that “Amar Challenge” was one of the most significant films that I did in my career. I had high hopes when the shooting began. The producer and director of the movie are the same as the film “Priya Amar Priya” which was my most commercially successful film.

How do you feel about your packed shooting schedule?
Shakib Khan: I consider my busy schedule as positive. I carry out my shootings just as an office goer carries out his duties everyday. I think I would be very unhappy if I had too much time to relax.

Tell us about your future plans.
Shakib Khan: Although I had been doing an average of 15 films a year up till now, I'm planning to do less than 12 this year. Before signing any new project, I will go through the scripts more carefully. I will not be working on Fridays.

What do you feel about the allegation that contemporary movies lack a story?
Shakib Khan: This allegation is not applicable for all movies. Many of the films have a very good storyline. The viewers are heading to the cinema halls because of this. I can say that the story of the recent movie “Ek Takar Denmohor” is brilliant.

Whitney Houston died of drowning, cocaine use

Grammy-winning pop legend Whitney Houston died from accidental drowning in her hotel bathtub after taking cocaine which could have triggered a heart attack, coroners said Thursday.
Houston, who died at age 48 in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel room last month, likely had some kind of heart attack which caused her to slip under the water, said the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.
"You have a heart condition exacerbated by cocaine use which, combined, resulted in her drowning," spokesman Craig Harvey told AFP, adding: "We feel that there was a heart event, complicated by cocaine use," before she drowned.
Ed Winter, deputy chief of coroner investigations, was more explicit when asked by the LA Times to explain the drowning. "She may have had a heart attack," he told the newspaper.
She had cocaine in her body when she died, said a coroner's office statement, which described her death as an "accident," and the cause as "drowning" and "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use."
"How injury occurred: found submerged in bathtub filled with water; cocaine intake," it said, adding: "No trauma or foul play is suspected," and that a final coroner's report will be available for release within two weeks.
Houston was found dead on February 11, a day before the music industry's biggest awards show, and hours ahead of a glittering pre-Grammy party in the Beverly Hilton hotel where she died.
Speculation had raged since her death that the singer may have succumbed to a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol.
Indeed, other drugs were found in her system, but which did not contribute to her death, the coroner's office said. They included marijuana, alprazolam ( Xanax), cyclobenzaprine (Flexiril) and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl).
The TMZ celebrity news website quoted a coroner's office official as saying Houston used cocaine "immediately prior to her collapse" -- but investigators who arrived on the scene found no traces of cocaine or any other illegal drug.
That was because "an individual" removed all traces of cocaine from the room before authorities arrived, it said, adding that the person was the same one who supplied the drug to Houston.
The coroner's office spokesman said chronic use of cocaine was likely a key factor in Houston's death. "Chances are, had she not had the pre-existing heart disease and cocaine use she may not have drowned," he said. "The cocaine causes the heart to beat faster, the arteries to constrict, which could... set you up for a cardiac event."
Houston's shock death cast a pall over the annual gathering at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with several tributes to the singer -- and a public prayer -- added to the show at the last minute.
The singer of hits including "I Will Always Love You" sold over 170 million records during a nearly three-decade career, but fought a long battle against substance abuse while trying to keep her performing talent alive.
Houston was buried a week after her death in New Jersey after an emotional farewell ceremony in the Newark baptist church where she sang as a child, which was watched worldwide.Earlier this month it emerged that Houston had left all of her assets to her daughter Bobbi Kristina, born from her troubled marriage to singer Bobby Brown, who gets nothing.
Bobbi Kristina, who is currently 19, will inherit the proceeds from all of the late singer's money, furniture, clothing, personal effects, jewelry, and cars, according to the will published on March 7.
A few days later Bobbi Kristina said she plans to follow her mother into show business, while the drug-troubled star's sister-in-law admitted her untimely death could have been predicted.
The late star's sister-in-law, Patricia Houston, said it had been possible to forecast that drugs would claim the singer's life. "The handwriting was kind of on the wall. I would be kidding myself to say otherwise."

Aamir Khan is in search of a new talent

After Abhinay Deo of Delhi Belly, Anusha Rizvi of Peepli Live and of course, Kiran Rao (Khan) of Dhobi Ghat, Aamir Khan has trained his sights on another debutant director, who is all set to make a film about friendship that cuts across religious and cultural barriers.

Deepak Diwedi's film, interestingly titled Kashmiri Glasshouse, will be shot on location in Agra this winter. Apparently, Diwedi has no real experience in filmmaking.
A source disclosed, "Diwedi caught Aamir's attention without an impressive biodata or past history. Aamir read the story of a friendship between Agra-wallahs; one, a sari-shop owner and the other, a photo-frame shop owner, and he was hooked."
Kashmiri Glasshouse will also see the re-launch of Chandan Roy Sanyal, who played Shahid Kapoor's psychotic friend in Kaminey. Chandan will play the Sikh sari-shop owner in the film. "Aamir has asked Chandan to prepare for his role, for which, he will be growing a beard and spending time in Agra. When Aamir saw Chandan's audition, he immediately selected him."

Chandan simply said, "I am really not supposed to talk about this. I lost both Kahaani and Santosh Sivan's Urumi while shooting for F.A.L.T.U. Happens, no regrets. Which is why I don't want to talk about this wonderful opportunity that Aamir Khan saab is giving me."
